This is it. Our honeymoon road trip in our Evolve teardrop trailer has come to an end.
We have been travelling western north America for almost 6 months. We took our Evolve trailer on many roads and to lots of different places in Canada and the United States. We spent the biggest part of our trip camping in National Parks. We got so used to staying in our teardrop camper that it soon became our home. A safe shelter and a comfortable place to recharge and relax. Travelling with a teardrop trailer truly gave us the freedom to experience this great outdoor adventure in a very special way.

How did our teardrop trailer make our road trip special?

More time spent outdoors

Because a teardrop trailer is smaller than most Rv’s, you get to experience camping in a whole new way. Our goal for our trip was to spend more time in the outdoors. To explore and get closer to nature. And our Evolve teardrop was just the right trailer for that. It provided a safe and warm cocoon for the night with everything we needed for storage space, electricity, kitchen essentials,…while allowing us to spend more time outside. Our Evolve teardrop trailer was our little protective capsule amidst the immensity of this great, wide and wild outside world.

Go places

We took our Evolve trailer places where you could not take other trailers or RV’s. We drove on many roads where you would not have been able to fit any other trailer through. There was that one time we went through the Redwoods in northern California. The sign that warned us about trailers not being recommended on that road didn’t discourage us! And it was worth it. It was such a pretty drive through the forest of giant redwood trees.

We also took our Evolve Traverse down Lombard St in San Francisco aka the crookedest road in the world! That was very special. People were stopping to watch us go down. They probably had never seen this before! I’d like to think that we were the first trailer to make it down Lombard St!

Parking

We’ve been able to find parking a lot easier than a larger size trailer would. This was especially nice in urban areas. We drove through many big North American cities like Vegas, Phoenix, LA and San Francisco. We could always find parking in the large parking lots of hotels, grocery stores or malls.

Easy to manoeuvre

You can easily move Evolve trailers by hand. It’s that light! It’s so convenient to park but also to avoid getting stuck. There was one particular time, this summer, when we were driving down a logging road at night in Revelstoke. We were looking for a spot to camp for the night. As we were driving further and further down this bumpy dirt road in the dark, there was more and more bumps and dips. To the point where we couldn’t go any further without seriously damaging the truck and the trailer. There was no where we could turn around. So we stopped there, in the middle of the road. We got out of the vehicle and, with headlamps, we started unhooking the trailer from the truck. We then used blocks and Layne’s strength to turn the trailer around. We drove the truck back up and around and hooked up the trailer back unto the truck, then left. We found another spot more easily accessible for the night. This would have not been possible if it weren’t for the lightweight of the trailer and how easily it is to manoeuvre it.
We’ve also been able to drop off our trailer anywhere, on the side of the road or on a parking, and continue on with our truck. We just had to make sure that we locked it. This allowed us to access off-road trails to go hiking and explore deeper the wilderness of the great outdoors.

Little to no setup required

Throughout our trip, we loved the convenience of not having to setup a whole camp for the night. There were many nights when we drove until we were tired, then found a spot to park for the night and just hopped in bed. The next morning, we would just get out of bed, lock everything and get on the road again. When we needed to use the kitchen to cook up meals, it was just so easy to open the hatch door, unlatch the counter and pull it out. Our stove was stored in one of the drawers with the hose that you could easily hook up to the propane tank attached to the left side of the trailer. Our fridge was also easily accessible. Stored in the other drawer and running on solar electricity. We had everything that we needed at our disposal with no complicated or timely setup required. If the ground happened to be unlevel, we could easily fix that with a few blocks, even just by lifting the trailer by hand to adjust it.

It’s cute!

We got lots of attention from a lot of people because our teardrop trailer stands out among all RV’s. Teardrop trailers are not so common on the road and so they are very much noticeable. We got so many positive feedback from people we met. We happily gave them a tour of our little home on wheels. And they were very impressed by the quality and comfort of the trailer. They were also surprised by how much space there actually is inside! We got to meet a lot of people that way.

Fresh air!

We breathed fresh, pure air all day long and all night long. We always slept with the vent open for air circulation and sometimes we would crack a window open for an extra breeze. We loved it and got so used to it that now, we find it weird to readjust to sleeping indoors, in the warmth of a house. We miss waking up to the fresh air of the outdoors.

Daylight

Our days were punctuated with the natural cycle of days and nights. Our bodies adjusted so easily to it. We would feel the need to go to sleep about an hour after sunset and we would wake up with the first light of day. We have blackout shades on our window doors that will completely block any light. It was great when we were close to cities to block light pollution or when the moonlight was shining too bright in the dark night sky. But most nights we slept without closing the blinds on purpose. So we would get woken up with natural light. We could also observe the stars at night from our bed through the large window-doors. Especially when we would camp in the middle of nowhere. We’ve been able to see a lot of beautiful night skies with the full milkyway shining above us right from our bedroom.

Solar energy

On our trip, we’ve really taken advantage of the solar capacity of the trailer. The 100W solar panel on the roof and the 120W portable solar panel have really come in handy countless times! The solar panel on the roof gives you peace of mind as you don’t have to worry about recharging your batteries. It does it for you as you go!
As the days were getting shorter and sunlight was getting scarce, we did find that we needed to use the portable solar panel more often. So we set it up in a few places to get as much sun’s energy as we could. We have never ran out of electricity in our entire trip. Solar energy is so reliable and free! There is plenty of it and enough for everybody. So it was always time to soak up some sun and recharge.

Why did we choose an Evolve trailer for our trip?

High level of quality

The quality of the Evole trailers was outstanding from the first time we saw them. Compared to other trailers we visited before or looked up online, Evolve was by far the strongest and sturdiest.

All aluminum trailer

Most trailers are made out of wood. This compromises the durability and changes the weight of the trailer. Aluminum is such a great choice! It’s lighter, stronger and more durable.

Fully insulated

Evolve’s trailers are insulated everywhere. It’s a 360° bubble of insulation. There is a thick layer of durofoam insulation in the side panels, in the roof, in the floor and even in the hatch door. We really noticed how much of a difference it made on our trip. The trailer would stay warmer longer in colder weather or it would provide us with a cooler space for longer in warmer temperatures.

Customization options

The possibilities to customize the trailer were pretty much endless. We were able to request almost anything we wanted for our camper. Evolve has a long list of extra features that you can choose from but they are also open to any suggestions. As long as it is feasible, of course. We requested a few of them for our trailer and we were very satisfied with how they were willing to add in some extra features that they wouldn’t normally offer.

Personalized customer service

Evolve goes the extra mile to satisfy its customers. Mike and Felicia make you feel special and important. You can tell that pleasing their Evolve teardropers is their priority. They will stop at nothing. They are determined to help you create the best trailer that will meet all your needs and desires! And they really care about your experience with their Evolve trailers. They always welcome any feedback and are willing to work with you to improve, readjust, rethink where necessary.

Evolve is a Canadian company

Evolve is proudly canadian! We chose Evolve solar teardrop trailers as our trailer manufacturer because they are a local company, situated just outside of Vancouver, in Langley. We love supporting local, small businesses and Evolve was just the match for it.

Evolve is a trailer manufacturer

There are many advantages of dealing directly with a trailer manufacturer instead of going through a dealership. But the main differences are:

  • a personalized approach
  • more flexibility
  • a direct relationship with the builder of the trailer
  • the possibility to see how the trailer is built and to follow the building process every step of the way
  • there is no additional markup that needs to be paid to cover the cost of a dealership and salesman. The price of the trailer is the cost of the trailer.

Also, Evolve is a certified trailer manufacturer. This means that they are not just someone who builds trailer in their garage based on video tutorials or the like. Mike actually has the expertise of working 40 years in the trailer industry! So he knows what he’s doing, there is no doubt about that. When dealing with Evolve, you know they are reliable and trustworthy. The level of technicality that is put into building the trailers is well beyond the average skillset. Evolve is also always ahead of the curve in investing in new features but also at designing the next upgrade. Evolve’s trailers are designed to be retrofitted with extra features. For example, each trailer is built with aluminum mounting plates on the roof so a roof rack or awnings can be added on at any time. The name of the company itself was chosen to reflect that. And we loved that concept. Everything in nature evolves and so do Evolve trailers.

This is it for now. We hope you enjoyed following along on our adventures with our Eva, a teardrop trailer of the Evolve family.

We hope you’re having a wonderful holiday break. And we wish you many wonderful camping adventures in 2020!
