We finally got to the best part of our trip. We made it south! Eva, our Evolve teardrop trailer, was very happy to get to some warmer weather. And so were we. We continued our journey further south, left Utah from the southwest corner and drove into Nevada for our next stop: Las Vegas and the Hoover dam.

Nevada, Arizona and California

We drove through Vegas at night, Eva behind us. We were proud to parade down the strip with our Evolve trailer. We were impressed by all the city lights and visual stimulation!

The Hoover dam was very interesting! Without it, cities like Vegas and L.A. could never exist. It is a master of engineering from the 1930’s. We had been following the Colorado River through its course in Utah. And now, here it was again. All its water is held by the dam creating Lake Mead. We saw the Colorado River one last time at the Grand Canyon in Arizona.

Arizona was dryer and warmer. And we loved it! Our favourite was the Saguaro cactus. Emblematic to the state of Arizona. You know when you’re getting closer to Phoenix, when you start seeing them everywhere!

Prior to Phoenix, we spent a few days in Flagstaff. At over 7,000 ft, Flagstaff was the city with the highest elevation on the historic Route 66. We saw some remnant of that iconic route driving through Kingsman.

On our way to Phoenix, we drove through Jerome on a windy and narrow road through the mountain, then stopped in Sedona for a quick hike to Devil’s Bridge.

The sunsets in Arizona were gorgeous! Colourful and warm, they would always light up the sky for a wonderful display.

We went all the way to Tucson, then up to Yuma. We camped in a palm oasis in Yuma, surrounded by date trees. We enjoyed the heat and soaked up as much sun as we could. Eva included. All our batteries were recharged.

Our next stop was Palm Springs. On our way, we drove past many acres of fields of lettuce, date trees, lemon and orange trees, vines,… and green houses. Southern California is the biggest grower of fruits and vegetables. It supplies the whole continent and other parts of the world with fresh produce all through the winter. All of this, in a very dry, arid and desert area. Irrigation canals, water reservoirs and sprinklers are all part of the landscape to make the desert bloom, grow and bear fruit. Such ingenuity!

We also toured the two major cities in Southern California: San Diego and Los Angeles. We went from desert to sea. Quite the contrast in scenery!

Eva, our Evolve teardrop trailer was with us through it all. She still follows us everywhere we go. We’re so happy to have her as our little home on wheels. Our teardrop trailer has allowed us to experience our trip in a very special way. We can get pretty much anywhere we want with the freedom and ease that no other trailer would have permitted. Our camper is all we need. It is teaching us to live more simply, with flexibility. And it is giving us a true outdoor experience of being close to nature while staying in the comfort of our home together. We’re quite happy and content. We are enjoying all the little things in life and appreciating every privilege we have.

So on we go… to the next destination for more unforgettable experiences.

Next month will be the last episode of our 6 month honeymoon road trip and the last blog post about it.

So stay tuned. The story hasn’t ended yet!
